Its been geting warmer and the fish are moving in closer with great kingfish grouping around the bait schools and xos snapper feeding in under these schools. We have been fishing out around the cape with lots of 15 plus kg fish and some just to big for my charters to stop. Some anglers are just getting smashed and cant lift the rod to even gather line.. This has to be more practice needed so i just keep putting them on the fish to give them practice. Sorry guys but thats what you came for. Being close to rocks these larger Kingfish are changing gear and heading to the rocks so with the old ruling the hard er you pull the harder they pull back, we try different tatics then we get sucess.. by slow driving and leading the fish out deep we start landing 20kg+ fish.
The snapper have been great as with the warmer water we are getting male fish up to 7.5kg and nice 3-4kg mixed in as well. Not far now and the first run of jacks will be in close and these guys will be 9kg plus... remember these fish are the breeders so take what you can eat and let the rest go. I have been working on the boats and a spell of bad weather has allowed us to complete tasks and get some paint down, I must say this summer is looking to be busy so if want to come fishing with me contact us to secure your booking.. Till next time ..Rob

Well the winter has moved over and it has been some good fishing over the winter period as we took on the light tackle 6kg kingi comp. Mixed results with us going on to top 3 position with 4 good fish landed. Day 2 started well and after several bust offs with one fish being 25kg plus we were some what gutted as we had him on for 1.5hrs and lost oi at the boat by a slight f... up. say no more. this would have taken us to a #1 pos...never mind.
Day 3 we got 3 more fish and back up on the top 5 score and in to day 4.. this being the last day we had to pull some good fish and the wind picked up to 30knts from the east. Luckly for the fleet a bite happened at mao mao rock and all 30 boats experianced good fishing. We broke 3 fish off and experianced a bite from a marlin as did 3 or 4 others. this fish swam through the fleet eating our blu mackerals. Yep he busted off every boat.. Back to the kingi comp we hooked up on a nice 20kg fish and battled for 2hrs to have the fish hit by a mako at the boat, fish dsq we went back into the bite zone to have another hookup and 2hrs again a 15kg landed but was foul hooked and thus taking so long. That was us as stop fishing finished early on last day and we came home on 7 place with a great comp and hard luck stories... well be back to get our name on the trophy

The Fishing has been just outstanding with all fish species turning up in good numbers and size. The Snapper like every year has been great with some very large Snaps we caught in the shallows going well in to the mid 20lbs and most being released. Best breaders.
The Kingfish has also been great with the fish size being on average larger than this time last year and great numbers to be caught at the Cape and around at the 71 foul.
The Monterey took out the 2012 Juniors comp again with 26 Kingfish caught and tagged plus the Top angler prize as well. To Much fun!
The Marlin though being a bit late due to the colder water have now arrived at the Bay and are close in around the Bird trench and the Cape area. This will only get better over the next 6 to 8 weeks.
got to love this time of the year!

Its got to be winter with the cold mornings but the weather has been amazing allowing us to get out and do some deeper water fishing. The Kingfish have been a bit slow on the inshore reefs but the bite has been great out on the outer spots past the Cape. Recently went out with a couple of guys that had the fine art of Jiging sorted. They pulled some greatt Kingis off the 71 reef and put serious heat on the gear, Well done!
The Snapper have been on the 100m line with some good catches deep as well but had some very good fish in 5-6m of water and when opening up the fish were full of cray parts.
Go the ALL BLACKS

Hi to all, Well you might be back at work but I have been having some brillant work days of my own. The kingfish at the Cape have been amazing with fish pushing 20kg and lots of bites. The problem is stopping the fish but it's a good problem to have.
I have been fishing the 70M foul to late if the tide hasn't been pushing at the Cape with lots of 10kg fish and picking up Groper at the same time off the bottom.
Further up the coast at Rocky has been plaged with Barracoutta, so trying to keep away from this area but will give it another go in a week I guess.
Snapper have been a bit harder this month, not quite like the month of June when I released a 26lb fish and lots more around the 18lb mark. Have had a couple of 10lbs in close off Long Beach and this has made it worth while getting out.
Trust you are all trying to catch if you can, let me know how you all getting on.
